British shorthair

Breed problem

Haemophilia B

Blood Type B

One thing you do have to remember about British Shorthairs is that they
tend to have Type B blood much more frequently than most of the cat breeds
found in the U.S.  It may be worth considering having a British Shorthair
blood typed as a precaution so that if a traumatic incident occurs, there
will be advanced warning about the need for Type B blood. The reason this
is important is that almost all domestic shorthair cats are Type A and they
are the most common blood donors in veterinary practices. Cats do not
always have to be sensitized to incompatible blood antigens to have a
reaction, so a Type B cat given Type A blood could die as a result of the
first transfusion.

Just something to file away for future reference.
